A bit about me…


My name is Paula Hallam and I am a paediatric dietitian with 18 years experience of working in the NHS and other healthcare settings. I have held posts in 3 of the worlds best Children’s Hospitals, namely Red Cross Children’s Hospital in Cape Town, Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children and Evelina Children’s Hospital, both in London. I have also worked in some of London’s major teaching hospitals such as St George’s Hospital, University College London Hospital and Kingston Hospital. I am currently based at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children.

Within my dietetic posts, I have specialised in Inherited Metabolic Disorders (paediatric and adult) and held the position of ‘Dietitian Advisor to the National Society for Phenylketonuria (NSPKU)’ for 3 years (see www.nspku.org for further information).

I have also gained extensive experience in General Paediatrics including food allergies, fussy eating, children with feeding problems, children with special needs, faltering growth, iron deficiency anaemia and gastro-oesophageal reflux.

I have worked in paediatrics for almost all of my working career, gaining extensive and varied experience and knowledge in all areas of paediatric nutrition.

I am passionate about food and helping parents make the best nutrition choices for their children. I love making scientific information accessible and understandable to everyone!

My qualifications:

B.Sc Biochemistry and Microbiology

B. Sc (Med) (Hons) in Nutrition and Dietetics

PG modules – Nutritional Status Diagnostics, Nutritional Epidemiology, Nutrition and Dietetics

BDA Paediatric Modules – Introduciton to Paediatric Dietetics, Inherited Metabolic Disorders

I am fully HCPC registered (www.hpc-uk.org) and a full BDA member (www.bda.uk.com)
